Dear candidates,

SEGi Subang Jaya is making arrangements for the required reference book to arrive before the class starts. USQ is recommending Gardiner P. (2005). Project Management: A Strategic Planning Approach. as the main reference.

For those who are serious in their quest for project management, Kerzner, H. (2006). Project Management: A Systems Approach to Planning, Scheduling, and Controlling and Cleland & King (1997). Project Management Handbook are good buy. I strongly suggest candidate to become a member of Project Management Institute where you can get access to PMBOK and other excellent text and journals.

As I need to know the number of candidates requiring the PMBOK, appreciate if you could advice me so that SEGi can make the necessary arrangements.

Cheers

    Dear Dr Faisal,

Between all three books you’ve mentioned, can you suggest the best book for me to buy? Another thing, can either of the books help us in delivering good assignment material? For the slides you’ve uploaded, is it enough for helping me to get information to complete the assignments?

    Thanks.

    Dear Jonee,

The books are to help better understanding of of the subject … hence leading you to better comprehension of the topics being discussed, so do my lecture slides. your concern in producing good assignment, is entirely yours. Meaning, your ability to comprehend the question and articulating what you have read and observed into an assignment. Reading books, journals, lecture notes and attending lectures are part of learning input – that is all. Your ability to critically discuss the subject is what matters in producing good assignment papers.

Dr, just need your recommendation between those 3 books, which is suitable for me? I don’t think it necessary to buy all 3 books. I don’t think i have time to read all those books since i’m having some projects to be deliver until end of this year. Now is my 5th year of doing projects but hoping by attending this class, you can blend me to be a better PM manager one day.InsyaAllah..

    Dear Jonee,
You can just buy the USQ recommended text as the study guide calls for chapters within the book.
PMBOK is more into Project Management process groups which is required for those pursuing project management specialisation. Kerzner and Cleland talks about project management from broader perspectives, managing projects and international practices. Personally, I used all the books as each have thier own merits. Unfortunately, I have yet to review Gardiner’s text, therefore I could not give my comments.
